5 Tips for GREENING the Mind
Remove the toxic waste upstairs and clean up your mental environment!
Mental toxic waste comes from being out of balance, locked in your head, and losing touch with the present moment – with LIFE! Can you relate to any of these examples of mental toxic waste?
• Stress
• Fear and doubt
• Voices in your head that judge, guilt trip, or do not support or accept you, such as:
“You should or you shouldn’t ________________.”
“You’re not good enough or you’re not ________________ enough.”
“What will others think?”
“You’re too fat, too thin, too stupid, or too _______________.”
“You can’t _______________.”
• Overthinking, thought with anguish — better known as worry
• Ruminating and going over the same facts and figures
• When you figure out a solution to your drama, 10 minutes later you find your mind figuring the whole thing out again and again.
Here are five empowering ways to quiet self-sabotaging thoughts and bring revitalizing balance back to your whole being …
1. Differentiate between that critical voice and your core being. Realize that you are not that negative voice.
2. Start naming the loudest critical voices, for example “Trickster” or “Gremlin,” especially when you catch one in action. This brings awareness to the untrue voice and is an excellent step toward disempowering it.
3. When you notice that you’re in the past or in the future, bring your attention to what is present in the moment: your breathing, a flower, a tree, a child’s smile.
4. Give space for silence. Take three-five minutes of silence — by yourself, plus with those you work with, meetings, mates, friends, family, etc.
5. Exercise! Move your body daily to release stress and pent up emotions; take up yoga, tai chi, qigong meditation, and/or dance.
Still can’t quiet the voices or calm the mind? Schedule a private session.
