Transforming Illness

Finding the gift in serious illness

Serious illness can be one of the biggest crises we encounter in life. If you have a serious, life threatening illness such as cancer, hearing the words “you have cancer” can be frightening and overwhelming. No matter how old or what stage one is at in life, a serious illness can take an emotional toll on the person diagnosed, as well as everyone close to that person. What makes the situation more challenging are fearful thoughts. Fear of suffering, pain, and what’s going to happen are common and understandable yet not helpful.

A serious illness can be a rich opportunity to strengthen the spirit and cultivate a sense of peace. While none of us would consciously choose this kind of major crisis, a serious illness may be the opportunity we need to go beyond the limits we’ve placed on ourselves.

For those whose lives are touched by serious illness, I offer …

• private sessions by phone or in-person.

• group support, including guided relaxation; meditation; and other activities to quiet the mind, live more in the moment, deepen into one’s core values, and create healthy perspectives.

If you have a serious illness or are close to someone who has a serious illness, you are assisted in shifting fearful thoughts of the unknown into loving, acceptance of what is here and available to you now. You are encouraged to find where you are resisting life, and to identify and question self-limiting thoughts. You are supported to allow a new life to emerge from a deeper level of inner health and well-being.

You are also encouraged to seek medical advice and resources in order to know what your choices are for physical levels of healing. I offer powerful tools and support for emotional healing, which may contribute to your healing physically. Most doctors will support you in using all available avenues for your healing. However, what I offer is not a substitute for receiving proper medical attention.
